Calvin is 3

Another birthday for Calvin marking great success and growth this year. He is talking a lot more now and we have been calling him Repeater. Everything we say he copies and he's learning new phrases all the time. It's funny how we begged him to talk for so long and now he won't stop talking. We are so grateful that he is developing and learning all the time. Over the past 6 months he has become more obsessed with trucks, construction, trains, and anything with wheels. He loves to watch a show called Mighty Machines, which is real construction videos with lots of trucks. For fun, we take him to a construction site where they are working and he will just watch. It's cheap entertainment and his favorite thing to do.

For those of you who have been following his head charts with me for the last three years, you'll be happy to know that his head growth is still out of this world, but he's still doing really well. Since the charts don't go up high enough for him, the doctor has been writing her own marks on the chart to show where it should be. His head is about 22.5 inches and he can wear the same hats as almost all male adults and his head is larger than most female adults. It's adorable to see him next to a kid his age and see the difference. We are so used to his big head we don't notice.  The very top X on the right corner shows you his head. It's kind of hard to see but I have to show this because it cracks me up.

Head: 22.5 inches, 100th percentile
Weight: 39 pounds, 95th percentile
Height: 39 inches75th percentile

This is a classic move of a drive home. We stop to watch some construction by our house. He has his matching toys with him and shows us how they work. We park, he watches, and after we have stayed as long as we can, we leave. Here is the before and after shots:

It makes us wonder why we ever stop to watch the trucks because honestly we stay for about 10 minutes or so. No matter how long we park there and watch people work, it will never be long enough for this little man. He cries and begs for more every time. It's adorably heart breaking.

This is what we did for his birthday. We took him to any and all trains and trucks we knew of the day before. We made sure he got his fill and got to do all the things he loves. We hid all his birthday decorations so he didn't know what to expect.

His birthday was on Father's Day, and we woke up and celebrated with a huge breakfast. We had church that afternoon, came home and put him down for a nap. While he slept, Shelby and I turned our house into a construction zone. We had a bunch of huge black paper and made roads on the floor and got out all his truck toys. He woke up and all our family was here and he was very excited.

Calvin's birthday cake that he talked about for weeks

Calvin was too shy to blow out his own candles

The toys on the cake are his favorite. Now he thinks he should always put them in his food.

Can't have a party without some good food

Silly Uncle Phil

New truck book that we read about 8 times a day

The highlight of the party, a truck from Grandma Wendy

Calvin tried to rip open the box and wouldn't stop trying until Gma quickly cut it open

Uncle Phil had an attack of the balloons game

Calvin laughed so hard and played with the balloons until he was too tired to move

That's it! Send him to work with Dwight! :) Actually, if he wants to dig holes, Dwight would gladly put him on a machine with him! Our boys have always loved that!
