The Coombs Family

Ok, so I went in for my final ultrasound and they finally said my eggs are the right sizes and so are my hormones. So I get a trigger shot, my last shot, on Tuesday the 28. Then on Thursday the 30th, we go in and have the egg retrieval done. Caleb will go with me and do his thing at the same time I do mine. Then the embryologist meets up our parts and tries to fertilize. We will find out on the 30th how many eggs they were able to get. But we won't know if they fertilized or not until the day after. I am so ready to be done with my shots. And done trying to hide this from everyone. They said it will take a couple of weeks before the swelling goes down, but at least the pressure is immediately gone.

I've gone in for ultrasounds every other day for the last week. My stomach feels huge, is very bruised, but my eggs aren't growing as much as they hoped. So they doubled the Follistim dose to 300 instead of 150. I am also taking Ganirelix now too in the morning. It's pretty interesting getting shots every morning and going to work. I'm trying to find stretch pants and sometimes they even feel too tight. They were hoping that I would trigger sooner and the egg retrieval would be on Monday 3/27, but the little eggs aren't growing as fast, so they are adding more days. Every day that I extend the shots costs us $1,000. Obviously when you get this far into it, you wouldn't wan to stop for that. But now I know why the range is so spread out on cost. You don't know if it will happen sooner, or later, and every time they double the dose, it's more money. And more fluid I have to be injected with. Boo. Our wedding anniversary was on Sunday, March 19th. And what did we do? The most romantic thing ever of course! We went to a Journey concert, ate amazing Thai food, and stayed up way too late with no kids!! Before we could leave for the concert, he gave me my shots. They don't make me feel that amazing, but it's not too bad. I was kind of sick at first, but I think it was coincidental because I don't feel sick anymore. The next morning, we slept in, way too late, and then we went and volunteered at a soup kitchen. Maybe not romantic to some, but it was amazing. So fun to spend time together. I've been on lots of medications for IVF but we officially start the injections now. It's almost our anniversary and how romantic is Caleb stabbing me in the stomach twice a day with shots? I get one every morning, two doses of Meupur. And one pen shot at night, Follistim. Caleb isn't worried about the shots at all since he gives them daily to patients. But not in their stomachs! And not to his wife! So we watched all the videos together and he pretended to be very interested. What a sweet man. Rhoda went to the classes with me and actually knows how to do them. We also stumbled into the Nike employee store, got pedicures, ate some good food at PF Changs, and made the whole day of it!

Caleb and I have been talking about another baby for the past year. I've had my heart set on adoption, but I don't know that we are ready for it. I've talked to the state programs, some international, attorneys, people who have adopted, and I just don't know that we can do it. I wish we could, and maybe someday it will come more naturally. But I've had a new idea lately. Over Thanksgiving while I was in Utah, my cousin Jocelyn and I were talking about how hard it is for us to both get and stay pregnant. Lots of hardships, years and years of trying, and we've basically done everything possible except for IVF. So as we sat on the couch, I started calling around and found out that my insurance covers NONE of the cost. Of course. Thanks. Guess what, I'm the benefits manager too. You'd think I would get it covered, right? Well, I would never do that for personal gain. If it made sense for other and employees, then maybe, but not just for me. So I started lo...

Ok, so I have been at the practice every single day with Caleb. We are painting, cleaning, repairing. He is open three days a week, Monday - Wednesday. We come in every evening, and put it back together for work the next day. It's been nuts. Then on the weekends, we do big stuff. Like rip down wall paper, remove walls, and patch walls. Sometimes it feels like we do the same thing over and over, maybe because we do, but it's been so fun. The kids love to come hang out with us and get to help out. We ended up taking over the practice on Caleb's birthday, January 5th 2017. We are so excited! Caleb has been sneaking in, with permission of course, the past month adding all sorts of wires and connections. The previous owner didn't use any new technology so Caleb has added wiring to each room for it. The practice has some older tools and furniture, so now we get to shop and decide what the style is. There is so much to do! Wish us luck.
